Fountain Art Fair’s seventh annual Miami exhibition takes place this week, December 6 – 9th, at 2505 North Miami Avenue. Known for its tendency to take risks and thrill art revelers across the country, Fountain Art Fair showcases a dynamic platform of over 40 cutting-edge exhibitors, performance artists and musical guests adding a surprising twist to the typical Art Basel Miami Beach experience.
Receiving excellent press in advance of the exhibition, Fountain prepares to reach record attendance at this year’s installment. Eden Grey of Art Miami TV writes: “Fountain bears the namesake of Marcel Duchamp’s controversial art piece from 1917, and there is no doubt this exhibit is widely reminiscent of the ground-breaking DADA movement. DADA challenged art just as the art at Fountain challenges the viewers. These are the artists that live art.”
Grace Exhibition Space returns to Fountain Miami for their 5th year as curator of Contemporary Performance Art throughout the weekend, featuring sensational international performance group NON GRATA. This wildly experimental Estonian-based collective made infamy in Miami 2010 with their sexual adventures and public destruction of 1986 Ford Tempo housed in the great lawn entrance to the fair. Non-Grata, or not welcome in Latin, prides itself in being a liberator for those whose world of art starts from the point where the art world ends, often including audience members in the performances. Grace Space will also feature durational performances by Igor Josifov, Quinn Dukes, Sindy Butz, Caridad Sola, Willard Morgan and AnalogAnalogue.
Special events include First Look, VIP + Press preview Thursday December 6th from noon till 5pm. Fountain’s Opening Night Reception kicks off the weekend, Friday, December 7th, with a special DJ set by Mr. JPatt, 1/2 of New York City’s The Knocks, spinning until midnight. Continue your Friday night into Saturday morning at Fountain’s Opening Reception After Party. Co-hostedby Creamhotel, at Cafeina Wynwood Lounge, midnight – 5am, the party will be complete with an open dance floor and special guest porcelain dance by circus artist Rebecca Starr. On Saturday December 8th, join Fountain and The Miami New Times for Brooklyn’s dopest dance party, Tiki Disco. Paper Magazine buzzes, “Fountain is always a blast with lots of parties and hip art, plus this year they’re hosting a spin-off of Brooklyn’s Tiki Disco party on Saturday night.”
